My Woolies Story (abbreviated), Sept 2024I never meant to join Woolworths and in many ways I am the “accidental CEO”. However, with the benefit of hindsight, it was the best thing I ever did (professionally at least!). I joined because I loved and believed in the people, I stayed for this same reason, and as I hand over that baton to Amanda Bardwell today, there is no doubt I will miss our amazing team terribly. It has been my great privilege to be the CEO of Woolworths for the last 8 and a half years and work closely with our team to be of service to our Customers, and the Communities we are part of.Thank you to all of the Woolworths Team and Partners. As the late great Muhammed Ali said - "Me. We." There is no doubt, We were better together.

While many will have mixed feelings about your legacy, I hope people - media and public alike - will remember the way you steered the business through Covid and ensured food and essential supplies were kept on the shelves. Meanwhile it kept small businesses going and allowed many people to keep earning a living. This was a magnificent effort and you deserve respect and recognition for this.

I certainly remember the accidental nature of you joining Woolworths Brad Banducci. When you were CEO of Cellarmasters and Guy Brent was the CFO, Archer Capital labelled the two of you as “synergy 1 and synergy 2” when Woolworths was acquiring the business. What a brilliant decision by Woolworths to bring the two of you into the business at that time and not let you go Don’t ever forget Brad that you were the single person who drove the huge reduction in prices in Woolworths supermarkets when you were CEO of supermarkets back almost 10 years ago now. Always championing the customer. Wishing you all the best in the next phase of your life.

Brad Banducci the lasting impression you’ve left on me and on thousands of team members will be felt for many years to come. Your leadership, marked by curiosity, a relentless drive to get things done, and a willingness to challenge the status quo, has been truly inspiring. But what stands out the most is how you did it all with empathy, humility and genuine kindness.Thank you for the incredible impact you’ve made at Woolworths. Your legacy will undoubtedly continue as Amanda Bardwell takes the helm, guided by the strong foundation you’ve built. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter!

Two+ years in the making, this week we went live with our Scan & Go Trolley at our Windsor Supermarket:https://lnkd.in/ggjPKhN7It is still very early days, but amazing customer uptake and feedback and a much better experience than using our Self Checkout (SCO) if you have a large shopping basket. Very well done to the team.
